About Me

Me building a website on the side of a cliff.

My name is Johnathan Curry. I live in Corvallis, Oregon, and I was born in Anchorage, Alaska on October 18, 1983—I think it was a Tuesday. I have 2 sisters and young parents. We are all smart, creative, and competitive.

I held several low level computer tech jobs that drove me insane. To sooth my mind I would study and build websites. Not because I saw that someday having this knowledge would be beneficial, but more because it was the perfect outlet for my creative and analytical mind. Although I have been building websites since 2001, it wasn't until 2007 that I decided to focus my energy on building websites as a professional.

Everything you see on this website is the culmination of my formal and self studies. I've spent countless hours in bookstores reading. I read on topics like business, website design, various internet technologies, usability, customer service, graphic design, and the list goes on.

My passion for website development continues to evolve and grow. I can't imagine a life where I'm not building websites.

What services do I offer?

Website Design
There are several steps to designing a website. Briefly, they are discovery, project definition, site structure design, and visual interface design. I can help you with some or all of these steps.
I design websites with a content out approach. This means I start out with the message you want to give to your site visitors, then I develop the design around this message. I implement the design using style sheets, which has several benefits. The biggest benefit is that making changes to how your site looks, or even completely redesigning the site, is as simple as changing the style sheets. Another benefit is that using style sheets keeps your site search engine friendly.
In short, I design websites the right way so you won't have to spend gobs of money later.
Website Development
Developing a website falls into two very different categories: website markup with light scripting and backend programming. Website markup with light scripting involves writing the code that makes up each page of your site, and writing scripts that control some effects like drop down menus. Backend programming deals with all of the interactions that go on behind the scenes of complex websites, such as a shopping cart application.
Consulting And Liaison
If you are in the planning stage of your website project and you haven't involved a website professional then do not wait. I can help you develop a plan that will accomplish the goals you've set for your website.
If you have already committed yourself to a website contract but you simply aren't getting the customer service you need, then I may be able to help. I will act as your IT department and manage your website project on your behalf.
For those of you who have a quick question, or you need a little nudge in the right direction, the free way to go is to email me. Some of you might be thinking that you can email me a big list of everything you need to know and get around paying for my expertise. Well, the truth is you can! Of course there is a catch. The catch is that I answer email questions at my leisure, and I tend to answer the short emails first.
Hosting
I only provide hosting for my clients. If you have questions about hosting, feel free to contact me.

Collaboration

There are very few people that are world class, or even really good, at every aspect involved in building a website, so it is beneficial to work together. My strengths are in usability, coding, programming, project management, and I'm not too shabby at graphic design. If you have skills that you think compliment my own, or if you are looking for someone to help on a large project please get in touch with me.
